I’ve decided to go ahead and declare myself “Interim” Pope until the Vatican gets around to picking a new “Permanent” Pope. So for the time being, go ahead and call me “Pope Rob,” and feel free to look to me for any spiritual guidance you may need.
I’ll be fielding theological questions at samablog at gmail.com, and I’ll be issuing a religious proclamation once a day or so, until the new “Permanent” Pope is chosen. I’ll also be sending the following letter to the Vatican:
Dear Vatican Dudes,
I would like to offer my deepest regards on the passing of Pope John Paul the sequel. I wish you all the best in making your next selection of pope in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, I would like to offer my services to the Catholics of the world, or at least those online, as “Interim” Pope.
I am highly qualified to lead the church through this transitory period. As a Catholic who attended Catholic high school, I am well versed in the going dogmas, and am adept at providing spiritual counsel. I know a smattering of ancient Latin, and even remember a few Latin prayers too. But most importantly, I am unmarried, and given that I’m not currently seeing anyone, I think I can give some reasonable assurance about remaining celibate for the next two weeks while you find a more permanent replacement.
Plus, as you can see from the attached photo, I already have the appropriate garments.
I will be maintaining the church from my pulpit which can be found at http://samablog.robsama.com. Feel free to drop in and be reverential and stuff during my interim papacy.
All the best,
-Rob Sama
A.K.A. Pope Rob
God bless.

Does this mean that I can do that whole “confession” thing and tell you all of my sins, O Holy Pope Rob?

I fondly recall how I thought your picture at the Sama Cafe Press store had that Via Dolorosa look…and you asked me, “Who is she?”
Gotta love them Catholic school boys! (Sorry, Sister. Sorry, class…)

Can you make us some holy water out of Mt. Dew? That would be really cool.
