I remember one time in morning traffic in Somerville this guy had the bright idea to go around everyone by driving downt he sidewalk…my wife and I were in disbelief. Only in Boston dude, only in Boston.

I don’t get it, what’s wrong with that?
I used to live in East Boston and worked at the Ground Round in Brookline. I had the most fun commute in the history of ever. Before the Big Dig was done, I took the tunnel to the North End, got on 93 to Storrow Drive, then up Comm Ave to Cleveland Circle.
Driving up Comm Ave by BU was fun. The college students played chicken with the cars, I’m not sure how many I almost hit.
I’ve always felt that the only people safe in Boston traffic are pedestrians.
Being from NY, that was quite a culture shock. I’d almost get killed when I went home by walking out in front of traffic expecting it to stop.

How do you know that he was purposely jaywalking? Perhaps he was crossing at a place where he thought there was a crosswalk.

There was a crosswalk there that was signaled red. Normally, those things beep to let the blind know it’s safe to cross. Unless that thing was beeping when it shouldn’t have been, he knew he was jaywalking.

The audible signals don’t always work….see http://www.boston.com/yourtown/somerville/articles/2009/08/17/advocates_urge_boston_to_add_fix_devices_that_aid_the_blind/
