C.S. Lewis and William Safire both taught me to love words. May Mr. Safire rest in the best Word there ever was.

Just as the bagel found a way to provide constant sustenance throughout the day, Safire gave us ideas that lasted throughout our lives. The doughnut may have edged into the happy, special occasion celebration category, but so too did some of Safire’s essays. You can have substance and fluff exist as equal importance but different in necessity, but one can never have a wordly world in which the light has dimmed so significantly. I only hope someone thought to make a large batch of Safire to help us through this.
